About our organisation
The Albanian Muslim community formed the Albanian Australian Islamic Society (AAIS) in 1963. It opened the first Mosque in Melbourne in 1969.
Today, the AAIS continues to serve both the Albanian Muslim community and the broader Muslim community of Melbourne. It is the largest Albanian Muslim organisation in Australia with over 1,000 financial member families.
The Committee Board is the governing body of the AAIS, comprised of thirteen elected voluntary financial members. The AAIS also has an active Women’s Committee, Youth Group and operate the AAIS Youth Centre in Truganina, which is a purpose-built facility for AAIS Financial Members and their families for social and educational purposes.

About the role
The Imam of the Albanian Mosque will be required to work closely with the AAIS Executive Board and provide religious guidance (according to the Hanafi School of Thought) to the Society’s financial members and their families. The Imam will be required to work in a proactive manner and regularly engage himself in promoting Islam (according to the Hanafi School of Thought) primarily to AAIS financial members, as well as the broader community, while also engaging in activities that assist the AAIS in preserving the Albanian Muslim identity in Australia.

Prerequisites to apply for this role:
1. Albanian Muslim Background
2. Able to speak and write English, Albanian and Arabic proficiently
3. Completed tertiary Islamic studies at a recognised Islamic institution
4. Hanafi School of thought
5. Experience leading a congregation as an Imam
6. Experience teaching Islam to Adults, Youth and Children
7. Confident public speaking skills
8. Police Check
